Lessons can make room for the practical work of getting started, staying with an assignment and finishing it. We work on these habits through the student’s reading and writing.
- Make the task clear: read the instructions together and identify what the finished work needs to include.
- Choose a first step: break a large assignment into smaller actions, beginning with something specific.
- Keep ideas visible: use a short outline, notes or a checklist to keep track of the work.
- Practise follow-through: review what is complete and agree on the next manageable step.
We can adjust the length of individual activities and use discussion before writing. Tell me what has helped the student in the past and where the work tends to get stuck.
