About Mike
I have worked as an independent English tutor in Toronto since 2015. I have also taught at Seneca Polytechnic since 2013, first in the School of English and Liberal Studies and, since 2018, in the English Language Institute. My work at the institute includes teaching and workshop curriculum development.
In my lessons, we read, discuss ideas and practise expressing them clearly. I adapt the work to the student's needs, combining help with current assignments and the development of lasting skills.
Many families have worked with me for several years, and a few for a decade. My work has included students in Grades 4–12, university preparation and support during the first years of university.
My work with families continues between lessons. I provide regular feedback to parents and guardians, including weekly and monthly updates. I review assignments and teacher feedback, arrange schedules and help families decide what needs attention next. As deadlines or circumstances change, we adjust our priorities.
My support has also included helping with Individual Education Plan (IEP) documentation and communicating with teachers and guidance staff about students' needs and progress. Families have relied on me for practical guidance with school expectations, organization, deadlines and following through on plans.
My aim, ultimately, is to help students and families become more capable, more independent and more confident in their own judgment about these matters. I remain available to help along the way.
Sincerely,
Mike
