What can private tutoring help with?
English work can be difficult for different reasons. The starting point is the student’s own assignment or a clear skill they want to improve.
- Reading: understanding a passage, following an argument, noticing important details, and explaining an interpretation with evidence.
- Writing: planning a paragraph or essay, developing a claim, choosing examples, organizing ideas, and revising a draft.
- Teacher feedback: making sense of comments such as “be more specific” or “add analysis,” then deciding what to change.
- English language learning: vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, reading comprehension, and practice expressing ideas clearly.
- Preparation: practising for a school test, the Ontario secondary school literacy test, or a university application essay or interview.
- Academic skills: breaking work into steps, organizing notes, planning time and following through.
- Enrichment: more demanding reading, discussion and writing around a student’s interests.

Students do the thinking and writing. I help them understand the work, practise a method, and make their own work stronger. We follow the teacher’s instructions for each assignment.
